Welcome to Almena, WI, Trailhead to Cattail State Trail! Your ALL-SEASON Outdoor Recreation Destination in northwestern Wisconsin!

The Cattail State Trail is 18 miles of trail on a former rail corridor between Almena, WI and Avery, WI and passing through the Village of Turtle Lake. The trail is open year around to ATVs, walking, bicycling, leashed pets, horseback riding, snowmobiles, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

As of the 2010 census population was 677. Almena is within 10 miles of Turtle Lake & Barron, WI and within 22 miles of Amery & Rice Lake, WI.

RV Park: The new RV park includes an 8-site establishment which includes water (seasonally) and electric hook-up. It is located on the south end of Shadyside Park in Almena. Enter by way of Ashland Ave East off Garfield Avenue. Fee: $20/day. Self register.

Shadyside Park: Shadyside Park (on Park Ave and Highway P) is a large kid friendly park with playground equipment, restrooms, ice skating rink (seasonal), ball field, and concessions stand. The park also includes a Veteran’s Memorial where visitors and family members can stop in and pay their respects.

Cattail Trailhead: An ATV park-n-go has recently been renovated along with a new paved parking lot, state-of-the-art outdoor restrooms, grills, and a picnic area. It is located on Mildred Ave next to the Cattail ATV Trail.

ATV & Snowmobile Cattail Trailhead

The Cattail State Trail is perfect for ATV and snowmobile riders. It travels for 18 miles on a former rail corridor between the communities of Amery and Almena in northwestern Wisconsin.
